Saturday morning we were off bright and early to get in line to visit Santa! Olivia kept talking about visiting him and telling him what she wanted for Christmas. But Ben and I weren't sure how this was going to go. We arrived at the mall 45 minutes before it opened and got in the already long line. We waited a total of 2 hours and thankfully it was well worth it.
When it got to our turn, Olivia ran right up to Santa and climbed up onto his lap. What? Last year she wouldn't go near him. Benjamin just loved him though and we got some great pictures.
Ben and I got a free night to enjoy some time with the other Morse kids. I know we almost forget how to behave when it's an adult night. We enjoyed a lovely dinner at the Columbian before heading over to Madagascar's Ice.
Actually Ben and I have been a very long time ago, before marriage and kids. I didn't remember how cold it was but it was down right chilly in there.
I have squeezed in every holiday activity I can into this season so we kicked off last weekend with a family date with the Baker's. We took the kids to dinner at what was told to me was a Character dinner at the Grand Floridian Cafe. It was not and to top it off the lady made my reservation for the day I called to book it way back in the middle of November. Jenni and I may have lost sight of the holiday cheer for a few minutes while we stood their being told that we would have to wait almost an hour to eat with 3 children who were starving and waiting to see Mickey!!! Yup I was close to showing that lady some Ho Ho Ho alright!
Once we got that all sorted out, we had a wonderful dinner with well behaved kids (at least as well behaved as 4 kids under the age of 4.)! After that we listened to the pianist in the lobby play Christmas Carol's while the girls danced and took pictures in front of their beautiful tree.
We ended the night with a trip around the monorail to check out the castle. Oh it was pretty magical.
Again this year Ben signed up for Tough Mudder but this year I was able to tag along. It was so different to be there instead of hearing about it. It was pretty awesome to sit and watch some of the obstacles. Ben, his brother DJ, soon-to-be brother Wyatt, Kevin, Bryant, and 3 others began at 12pm after missing their start time of 10:40 because we were sitting in traffic due to it all. But that didn't stop the enthusiasm!!!
Shortly after arriving they were all checked in and ready to go. It took Ben about 4 hours, just under his time for last year, to finish. They all did great!
No check up this month! But we did have to pay a visit to the doctor just before we left for Pennsylvania. So his current weight is 19lbs!!! Yes that is just 4 pounds less then his big sister.
Obviously this means he is happily scarfing down anything that we let him. He is still loving his food and bottles. We have even given him a new option for a snack this month and that is the Baby Mumm Mumm's. It took him about a week to learn that he could actually swallow the bites he took, before that he would just bite off some, play with it in his mouth, and then spit it back out again. This was a very messy time, as any of you that have had them before would know they dry like cement.
He is doing great still sleeping though the night mostly, only waking once for a bottle usually around 5am. If he wakes earlier then that we just let him cry it out as long as it's not the inconsolable cry. He seems to love his room and his crib. When he wakes up in the morning we can hear him just chatting away to himself and when we do go in and get him, it's all smiles.
As I said in the beginning he took his second trip to the northeast, we visited Pennsylvania for Thanksgiving and more importantly his Great-Grandfather's memorial service. It was a great trip and we enjoyed the very chilly fall weather and lots of family time.
He is crawling around everywhere which now allows him to get into so much more. He plays in Olivia's room with her and makes just as big a mess as she does. He even loves to pull himself up to see what else there is. I love watching the 2 of them, they have such a love for each other. He still likes to pull her hair but I am pretty sure its just payback for the times where she gets a little too rough with him.
Thanksgiving weekend was our return to Orlando and also the return of Bernard, our Elf from the North Pole. He came back bearing little trinkets to show Olivia how much he missed her and welcome Ben to the family.
This year we spent almost all of Thanksgiving week in Pennsylvania with my mom's entire side of the family. Even my cousin DJ who is in the military and has been in Japan for the past 3 years came home. Ben's parent's joined us on the flight up and stayed till Wednesday, just to be there for us. Unfortunately our trip was not just for the holiday, but we were there for my grandfather's funeral. He passed away 4 weeks prior and since he was cremated we were able to schedule it so that all of the Koch's could be there.
We got in late Tuesday night but Dad made sure we had time to stop in Little Italy in Baltimore for dinner before we drove up to York, PA. Thank goodness he did, dinner was delicious. Olivia made a little friend while we were there and the 2 of them ran around the room we were sitting in for about an hour. Thanks to her Olivia feel asleep in the car moments after we pulled onto the highway.
Wednesday was a beautiful chilly day and it was also when we held Pop's service. All of us were there except Memom (his wife of 63 years), she was admitted into the hospital the day before for heart reasons. We were very close to getting her out just to come to the service but that didn't happen. Talk about a stressful holiday week. Pop had a military service and it was wonderful, the Chaplin even scarily looked like my grandfather.
We didn't really do much other then spend time hanging at my aunt's house and traveling back and forth between there and the hospital (Memom ended up staying there just over a week). But I stocked up on time with my cousins, aunt's, and uncle's!!!
Thursday was Benjamin's first Thanksgiving and boy did he eat, his food and he even got a little mashed potatoes and turkey from the big table. I have never felt more grateful for my family, every single member of my side and Ben's. It was a sad but wonderful trip.
Sunday when Ben and I returned from our weekend in Sarasota it was time to get busy. Most of the house had already been decorated for the holiday's but we still had a major piece to fit in. We need to get a tree!!! We had been going back and forth between getting a real tree this year or simply putting up our fake tree. We decided to go REAL.
Off we went to one of the lots and decided they were a little too far out of our budget. So we decided to try Home Depot, and we got a great deal on a beautiful Fraiser Fur. Now we will get to decorate it and enjoy that amazing smell for the next 4 weeks.
